The first year of the Health Careers Academy Tech Prep program allows students the opportunity to complete the 75-hour state of Ohio Nurse Aide Training... curriculum, which is required to be able to give care to residents of a long-term care facility. This training is completed in one semester and is considered the core of the curriculum. In addition, one quarter is spent studying medical assisting, which prepares the student to gain entry-level skills to work in a doctor's office. Another quarter is devoted to medical laboratory training, where the student learns phlebotomy skills, and how to perform basic laboratory tests.
